Netflix: spatial audio arrives on iPhone and iPad

Spatial Audio: Netflix makes it available for Apple devices

The phase of testing had begun at the beginning of the year and Netflix hadrecently anticipated the arrival of updates and news.

Finally the official news has arrived, and after the arrival on Disney + now Netflix also introduces this feature. For the moment, however, this is an update that will only affect owners of Apple devices, who will finally be able to take advantage of this much requested feature.

We are talking of the spatial audio. Through the use of quite precise directional filters, spatial audio allows total immersion experience within the content, superior to any audio technology developed to date.

Let's give a better insight.

The news on iPhone and iPad

The report of the update came initially as an indiscretion from some Reddit users, who circulated the news quickly (as you may know, the social is also known by the motto "the front page of the internet"). There were many, even before the arrival of the official news, to share indiscretions about this new feature available on iPhone and iPad.

Apparently the update will not only concern mobile devices, but it would also seem available for Apple TV 4K even if, once Netflix has started the rollout, it will probably arrive on all supported platforms in a short time.

As we write the article, meanwhile, it would seem available only for devices that have already updated to iOS 14.

The official version (currently in beta), will also present a virtual button within the Control Center of Apple devices, which will allow it to simulate spatial audio even on contents that do not support it in principle.

What is Spatial Audio

Now that it is clear that the new feature could soon be available to every owner of Apple devices, let's try to better understand what it is.

Spatial audio is an evolution of surround audio, the famous 5.1 or 7.1 audio, which is reproduced with a set of physical speakers, consisting of 5 + 1 or 7 + 1 speakers.

Thanks to this new technology, the audio can be adjusted to provide a feeling of total immersion for users. This takes the audiovisual experience to a new level, since audio, sounds and noises can come from any direction. All movies and series will have a different taste. You will be able to live the most exciting moments feeling immersed in the scene, and live it from the inside in a unique experience.

How to activate Spatial Audio on Netflix

If you have an iPad or iPhone updated with iOS 14, just update your Netflix app to the latest version available.

To verify activation, all you have to do is open the page settings for adjusting the volume of a Netflix content. The setting should be activated on the virtual button "spatial audio".

It is currently not available for all devices but, according to what has been confirmed, it should arrive for all subscribers in a few weeks.
