Satellite Internet: Tim starts experimenting with the service

Tim's Satellite Internet

Tim confirms its commitment to bring ultrafast connectivity everywhere, we start with the experimentation of Satellite Internet

Tim confirms its commitment to bring ultrafast connection throughout the country, this time the agreement with Eutelsat, world leader in the satellite sector, should allow the arrival of ultra-broadband Internet everywhere through satellite technology.

The new connection should finally cover even the most remote and isolated areas, let's see how.

Tim: the new satellite internet connection

The news was made official on June 4th and immediately aroused curiosity. This new service, on an experimental basis, is aimed above all at TIM fixed line customers who are in areas not yet reached by broadband and ultra-broadband.

Customers to take advantage of this service experience, we have the opportunity to sail with up to 100 Mb / second in download but, at least in this first phase, will be only3000.It will be possible to take part in this service until October (or until customers are reached) but, in the coming months, it should be open to everyone.

The initiative takes shape thanks to a new collaboration of Tim, this time with the world leader in the satellite sector Eutelsat Communications, purchasing for the next few years the entire transmission capacity for Italy on the two new high-performance satellites: the KONNECT and the KONNECT VHTS.

Eutelsat Communications

Founded in 1977, Eutelsat communications is one of the three largest satellite operators in the world. Through 39 owned satellites, it offers rental services for its satellite infrastructure by marketing its bandwidth, with coverage in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Asia and America.

The head office is located in Paris but offices and teleports are scattered around the world, allowing more than 4,500 television channels to be transmitted to a billion viewers equipped for DTH reception or connected to terrestrial networks.

Tim's kit for experimentation

The satellite Internet experimentation is active on almost all of the national territory (with the exception of Sicily and central and southern Sardinia) and will be completed by next October. Upon expiry, customers who have taken part in this first phase will then be able to choose whether to join the new commercial offer.

The experimentation sees only 3000 participants and the customers who decide to join this exclusive phase, will receive in addition to the satellite kit, on free loan including the satellite dish, the external transmitter and the Wi-Fi modem, together with the installation, totally free of charge, by a specialized technician.

A big step taken by Tim to strengthen its offer and overcome the digital divide in the country, bringing ultra-fast connectivity even in areas not yet reached by fiber and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA).
